The Section of Communication and Public Relations (1993)
of the Faculty of Letters at the University of Bucharest

The Section of Communication and Public Relations, which is Romania’s oldest academic structure specialised in this field, was created in 1993 as a part of the Faculty of Letters at the University of Bucharest. It received full accreditation in 1995 and its structure is based on the model of similar departments in universities in the United States and Western Europe. It is a member of the European Public Relations Research and Education Association (EUPRERA).

The department offers a 3-year study degree in either standard or distance learning programmes, as well as two accredited master’s degree programmes with a two-year duration each.

The disciplines studied within the CPR Section are focused on:
- professional education and skill-building in public relations, culture & mentalities history, anthropology of communication, sociology, psychology and management etc
- general competence training (information technology, foreign languages etc)

The long term goal of the CPR Section is to maintain its privileged position on the highly competitive academic “marketplace” by its constantly raising the standards of its research and higher education activity, as well as its contribution to the development of the public relations profession.

As a must of the CPR Section’s policy, students are required to undertake practical internships in companies, institutions and NGOs. As well, a considerably large number of scholarships have been offered to the best students in communication and public relations, as an incentive and reward of their performance.

The Chair of Communication and Public Relations gathers highly qualified staff with doctoral qualifications, who have also taken studies in Europe and the United States. The CPR department has been visited by the most prestigious specialists in communication sciences and public relations in American and European universities. The department continues to expand its contacts with academics and publishers in order to provide an interdisciplinary perspective on communication and PR.
